July Lunar Eclipse: Rising From the Ashes

We’re in a tear down phase.

It’s not a particularly pretty or comfortable place to be. It’s messy, sometimes frustrating, filled with chaos and set backs. But eventually the demolition ends, and we’re left with a clean slate. Of course when we’re talking about structures that have been in place for hundreds of years or longer, it’s a huge process. A process with many ups and downs, breakdowns and uncertainties, but with the potential to build something greater than what stood before. We’re moving into uncharted territory and that is both exhilarating and terrifying.

This weekend we’re heading into the third and final eclipse of this season. It occurs on July 4/5 depending on where you are in the world. Eclipses are a churning, a stirring of the pot, bringing everything up to the surface. Eclipses bring change, a chance to let go of the old, and witness the birth of the new.

We have to first get really comfortable with the unknown, with death and endings. Because nothing new can come if the old doesn’t go. This full moon just happens to be a south node eclipse in the sign of Capricorn. The south node represents what needs to be released, a chance to let go, as much as we can, of the old. Capricorn is a practical sign, ambitious and very much grounded in reality. The shadow side of Capricorn is distorted use of power, ego driven leadership and clinging onto old structures because it is all we can see. The aligned side of Capricorn represents the wise sage, the use of power for the highest good, with the ability to bring new visions into reality.

  • Where in your life do you cling to the old?
  • Where do you grasp for control?
  • How do you block yourself from opening up to your greatest potential?
  • What is your relationship with your own emotions, intuition, spontaneity, vulnerability, truth?

Clean use of power requires a balance and union between the masculine and feminine. I’m not using these terms to mean men and women, but rather the masculine and feminine within us all. The masculine is our ability to hold, witness and love the full spectrum of the feminine. It’s the ability to see from a higher perspective, and take action when needed. The masculine creates the structure and form for the feminine to flourish. The feminine is the intuitive, wild, fierce, nurturing part of Self. It is life itself, always moving and changing like the weather. The feminine often gets a bad rap, because just like there is a shadow side to the masculine, there is a shadow side to the feminine. The bitchy, manipulative, rage filled feminine. We label it all as crazy, but in the process we also deny the true, loved filled, fierce feminine.

Can you love your crazy? The parts that have been labeled as erratic, too much, too intense, too wild. Because I would argue that the primal, raw part of you is actually the wisest part of you. Perhaps if we stop trying to put that powerful, fierce inner Phoenix in a box, we will actually become what we were always meant to be.

Part of the healthy masculine is being able to not only hold the feminine, but actually seeing the value in the feminine and WANTING more of the feminine. Within ourselves that means being able to hold and see the beauty and the messages of our breakdowns. To understand that there is actually a reason we feel resistance or sadness or anger, and that by taking a birds eye view, we can find the deeper meaning of our emotions. It means honoring our creativity and laughing at all of our quirky bits. It means understanding that although we may have a plan and a to-do list for the day, listening to that voice within telling us we actually need to go jump in the creek, or go for a run, or play with our child… is truly what we need, and that there is wisdom in that.

It’s time we start honoring our inner feminine. So that we can start honoring the feminine in others, and in the world.

The beautiful thing about eclipses is that the energy is so strong, and the veils are so thin, that all we really need to do is listen. Give yourself the space to listen, and whatever comes up, know that it is showing up for you, so you can burn away what finally needs to go, and transform it into something beautiful.

The Lunar eclipse begins at 11:04 P.M. EDT on July 4 and ends at 1:56 A.M. EDT on July 5
